The "Lung Nodules" program is designed to search for and analyze nodular formations ranging in size from 3 mm to 3 cm, detected by computed tomography
Launching the "Lung Nodules" Program
Drag the chest study series in "lung" mode from the Preview Bar onto the screen
Click in the toolbar, "Studies" group, on the "Programs" button .
Click the "Lung Nodules" button .
The screen will be split into 4 panels:
three - standard orthogonal MPR projections
one - 3D model
Note: In case of technical problems with the 3D model (low computer performance), click the button - the 3D model will not be shown on screen
If you need to keep these settings for future use, click sequentially:
The "Lung Nodules" button in the left corner of the series header
Settings in the drop-down list
Click to uncheck the "Show 3D" item
The icon
The "Yes" button in the appeared window, then - "OK"
Automatic Nodule Search
Upon launch, the program will attempt to automatically identify all nodules and display them in different colors on all projections and the 3D model
Found nodules are:
strictly numbered from top to bottom - from the lung apices to the diaphragm
are arranged as a list in the upper part of the program panel
For correct automatic search of lung nodules, a series with scan thickness of no more than 3 mm is required
Inaccuracies are possible for nodules widely adjacent to anatomical structures
Disabling the Automatic Nodule Detection Mode
If for some reason the automatic nodule detection mode works unsatisfactorily, you can decline it:
Click the "Lung Nodules" button in the series header
Click the "Settings" button
In the appeared window, click to uncheck the "Perform an Automatic Search for Nodules" item
Click the "OK" button
If you need to save manual-only nodule detection mode for future use - before clicking the "OK" button, click the button
Navigating Through Nodules
Clicking a nodule name in the list shows it on all 3 projections; the text block blinks
Clicking the text block of a nodule on the axial projection shows it in the nodule list and on other projections
Clicking a nodule on any projection shows it in the nodule list and on other projections; the text block blinks
The 3D model is intended for visualization and is not used in navigation
Manual Nodule Editing
Adding a Nodule
Left-click the "Add Nodule" button.
Left-click to mark on any MPR projection nodes that were not automatically detected
Exit the mode - click the button again, or press the key on the keyboard
Note: If a message appears: "Failed to Create a Nodule"
Make sure that the selected structure corresponds to a nodule and not a vessel or other anatomical object
Deleting a Nodule
Left-click the "Delete Nodule" button
With left mouse clicks, mark on any MPR projection nodules that were identified incorrectly
Exit the mode - click the button again, or press the key on the keyboard
Alternative Method to Delete a Nodule
A nodule can also be deleted from the list:
Hover the mouse cursor over the name of the nodule you want to delete
Left-click the appeared cross button
Deleting All Nodules
You can delete all nodules by clicking the button at the bottom of the nodule list
When deleting nodules, a confirmation window appears
Click "Yes" to confirm deletion, or "No" to decline deletion
Automatic Nodule Numbering
When adding or deleting nodules, the numbering of the others will be changed automatically to maintain the "top-to-bottom" order
Editing Nodule Shape
Left-click the "Grow Nodule" , or "Erase Nodule" buttons to increase or decrease the nodule borders
Hold the left mouse button over a fragment of the nodule, move the mouse like a brush to add or remove part of the nodule and adjacent structures
Repeat editing the boundaries of the selected nodule on all MPR projections
If necessary, change the brush size by moving the slider under the buttons
Exit the modes - click the button again, or press the key on the keyboard
Note: You can temporarily switch from the brush to the eraser without exiting the "Grow Nodule" mode by holding the key on the keyboard Release the key to return
Editing Nodule Name
Editing the nodule name in the list:
Hover the mouse cursor over the name of the nodule you want to rename
Left-click the pencil button
In the appeared window, specify the nodule name and press the OK button
The name Nodule 1 (2, 3 ...) will remain, and the user-defined name will be added to it
3D Cursor in the Program
The program automatically positions the selected nodule in the center of the panel on all projections
For convenience, the 3D cursor is automatically hidden
To display the 3D cursor, click the button in the "Lung Nodules" program panel, or press the key on the keyboard
Click again to hide it
Analyzing Lung Nodules
Click the "Analyze Nodules" button in the program panel
A fifth panel will be added to the described ones, representing a table with the main parameters of each nodule
Clicking any cell in the table leads to displaying the corresponding nodule
Clicking a nodule name in the nodule list, or the text block of a nodule on any of the 3 projections, shows its row in the table
Data from the table can be copied by clicking the button
Return to nodule search - click the "Nodules Search" button in the program panel
